Indeed — and it could be much worse. I may have shared this somewhere else, but this typo in a book about Beethoven possibly takes the cake...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Probably the greatest error ever in a printed book:

My 1969 Dragon edition of 'The Mystery of the Missing Man' says this at the start...
BTW that doodling isn't mine!
Think they're a decade too early! The Mystery of the Missing Man was first published in 1946 by Methuen & Co. Ltd.

The clever tweets following the post are so funny too...

Re: Errors in books
*May have been covered earlier*
While going through the FF&D series afresh, I have noticed two glaring errors.
1) Towards the end of TMOF Holly Lane, there is a line which talks about tall and grown-up Fatty which then goes on to say he is the oldest of the lot (as opposed to Larry, as was established earlier in the series).
2) In TMOT Strange Messages, when Goon visits Fatty's house to confront him with his suspicions about the writer of the messages, Bets asks what 'anonymous' means. This was of course, covered earlier on in TMOFT Spiteful Letters (nonimous/anonymous).
I remember reading the reviews in one of the Journals from 2010 that the later FF&Ds were written as the memory loss was setting in.
Anyone else find any more errors as the FF&D series progressed?

Re: Errors in books
I think there was a mistake in Pantomine Cat.
If my memory serves me correctly, Fatty and Larry go to a café and have a meal while checking some alibis. I think at one stage some lines are credited to Pip who is not even there.
I am not 100% sure of this but I am almost certain. It is too late at night now for me to check but I will do so in the morning.

Re: Errors in books
You are right, snugglepot. The whole chapter is confused by the changeover of Pip and Larry and it doesn't make sense.
It has been suggested, Shanku, that Enid has Bets question the meaning of "anonymous" in a later book because children aren't necessarily reading them in the right order!

Re: Errors in books
Reading Five Go Off In A Caravan, I just found an error on page 188 of the 1949 edition. Dick has gone to get help, so there are four children and Timmy (including Nobby). Enid writes -
"I'll go first," said Nobby. "You go last, Julian. The girls can go in the middle with Pongo and Timmy."
He stepped onto the narrow ledge inside the rocky tunnel, just above the rushing water. Then came Nobby. Then Anne, then George and Timmy - and last of all came Julian.'
It seems that Enid has mistakenly called Pongo Nobby, perhaps? Its should read 'He stepped onto the narrow ledge inside the rocky tunnel, just above the rushing water. Then came Pongo...' etc.

Re: Errors in books
I’m new here so please be nice to the old man
I’ve lurked here for years and one mistake I don’t think I’ve heard mention of is in Kirrin Island Again. There’s a picture (Soper)where George and co go to visit the coastguard so she can use his telescope to see if she can spot Timmy. Yet in the illustration, Tim is standing right next to her.
I love the FF so you may find I have the occasional rant about them
Anyway hello and all that. I know there’s another Nigel here. Who also lives in Wiltshire
Let’s hope we don’t get confused.

Welcome, Nigel D! Hope you have fun on the website and forums!
Interesting observation about the Five on Kirrin Island Again illustration. I don't recall anyone mentioning that before.
