I very, very rarely drink coffee - maybe once a month at most - but just recently not even that. I'm very much a tea drinker...but I like my tea to taste of tea, not roses!sixret wrote:Maybe it's because you are a coffee drinker, Rob?

I'm with you there Rob. I have tried a few variations on the theme, but give me a good old cup of "ordinary" tea every time.

Tea which tastes of roses and other things isn't really tea to me, it's just a flavoured hot drink.

Re: Favourite brand of tea?
Yes - I agree. I was friends with a woman who always drank 'fruit teas'. To me, they looked just like Ribena or something made with hot water. I quite like a hot Ribena, especially when I have a cold - but I wouldn't class it as a 'tea' - and yet many fruit teas are not exactly 'tea' as I would describe it, either!

Re: Favourite brand of tea?
Something rather peculiar has happened, I have, almost by accident, discovered a likeness for a cup of tea . I have never liked tea, it tasted horrible, so bland and dull (even with some sugar in it), I couldn't understand why people rave about it or always felt better after a cup, but a couple of weeks ago I went to do a home visit for a customer and while waiting for the village bus, they offered me a cup. Not wanting to be impolite, I accepted and requested two sugars, thinking if it was sweet I could drink it better. They piled in two large spoonfuls of sugar and handed it me while we were chatting away. I took a sip, wondering if I could drink an entire mugfull of something all the while pretending to like it, but to my astonishment I really did like it, so much so that I was quite sorry when the mug was empty! For the first time ever I understood its appeal. The first thing I did on arriving home was make another cup to see if it had been a fluke, but no, I liked that one too, along with the others that have since followed it. I have to say I'm a little concerned, is it normal for one's tastes to change so drastically and rapidly like that?!
Re: Favourite brand of tea?
Couldn't agree more. All of these flavoured concoctions are the nectar of pretentious snobs. Some are less disgusting than others, but if I will stick with proper tea.Daisy wrote:Exactly, Julie.Julie2owlsdene wrote:Tea which tastes of roses and other things isn't really tea to me, it's just a flavoured hot drink.
And before you rush to your keyboards in defence of your tea caddies, I fully realise that many of these 'teas' (Earl Grey, Lapsan Souchong etc)are in fact real teas.
No need for concern. I would say you've just grown up. Welcome to adulthood!Ice Maiden wrote:I have to say I'm a little concerned, is it normal for one's tastes to change so drastically and rapidly like that?!

I seem to recall you've got a few of those pretentious flavoured concoctions in your own kitchen, Nigel.Moonraker wrote: Couldn't agree more. All of these flavoured concoctions are the nectar of pretentious snobs. Some are less disgusting than others, but if I will stick with proper tea.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Whilst it's a bit quiet here on the tea thread I have just made myself a cup of Twinings lemon & ginger tea as we seem to have run out of milk!

Re: Favourite brand of tea?
Several years late but as they say, better late than never . Tea has always seemed to me to be an 'adult' drink, I was surprised when I read in some of the FF's that the children drink tea, and even more surprisingly, coffee. I would think that even more of an adult drink than tea, a cup of coffee was what the on duty teacher would patrol the playground with on a freezing winter morning, it wasn't what us children had, nor would we have got it. The closest I got to it as a youngster was the coffee creams in the Chrismas Roses! I suppose it does beg the question though, if tea is for the grown-up's, why are tea sets made for children?Moonraker wrote: No need for concern. I would say you've just grown up. Re: Favourite brand of tea?
I remember drinking tea when I was at primary school, sitting in front of the open fire when I came home. We had a gas fire by the time I was 10, so I was obviously fairly young.
I never had coffee though, until I was much older - and I'm still not a big fan of coffee, though I love coffee cake!
