"I always think processed food tastes so much nicer indoors straight out of the cellophane packaging.."

"Look at my lovely new baby doll!" said George.

"I'm afraid it won't be much of a tea-time today," said Moon-Face to the children sadly. "Toffee-Shocks have just been banned on Health and Safety grounds, and Silky is having a terrible time with some queer new company that's threatening to sue her if she serves any more Google Buns..."

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

"Dick, Julian," Anne called out, "You stay here and prepare something for lunch while George and I go check out any clues that were left by the people flashing those lights, last night."
"Gee, Zerelda, " Darrell gushed, "Life in America sounds much more interesting than here. I mean, your school actually encourages you to be an individual. Here we are all expected to conform to some kind of British schoolgirl norm and woe betide you if you are different."

Re: Lines you would never hear in Enid Blyton!
Ern, Sid, and Perce were paying a visit to the Find-Outers, gathered in Fatty's shed. To their surprise, Sid had a healthy glow about him.
"You're looking very well, Sid," said Fatty.
"Yes - I realized that all that toffee, nougat, and chewing gum wasn't doing my health any good - and I got tired of being able to say nothing but 'Ar'.
"Besides, I've found a new interest - I'm getting into acting, and I need to be able to keep my mouth free for speaking well - being articulate, expressive, and intelligent is very important for me to do well in this. In fact, the group I'm in are doing a wonderful, inspiring play that Ern has just written."

Wonderful indeed.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.
