Re: Journal 50
I shall look forward to my copy too.
It's incredible that this Journal has had to go out at a loss!
I really don't know what the answer is apart from putting up the cost.

I'm also really looking forward to receiving my copy, Tony.
I'm sorry to hear that it has gone out at a loss and, like Julie, I don't know what the answer is apart from putting up the cost. The Journal is always great value for money. So come on those forumites who haven't already taken out a subscription, do it today!

Great news!!
I too, can't wait to recieve a copy!
Sorry that the journal has gone at a loss. Yes, I would certainlypay more, because the journal is always well worth a lot more than you sell them for, Tony.

Re: Journal 50
Journal 50 has just arrived. Looks great. Anyone reading this who hasn't subscribed - what are you waiting for???!!!!
I know the cost might put some people off, but if you break it down per journal, it's about the price of one pint of beer or 10 cigarettes, and you'd be lucky to get a starter in a restaurant for that price. You'd need the price of 2 journals to get into the cinema. All these luxury will only last a short while, whereas a journal can bring you a life time of pleasure. And with the exception of perhaps the cinema it is probably much better for your health than the cigarettes, beer or meal out.

Re: Journal 50
Whoopee!! Mine has just arrived this morning, too. And what a lot is packed inside. I've only had time to read Laddie's letter so far, as I'm off out today, but the Journal will be my reading for this evening. There's such a lot inside and it really is displayed so nicely inside. I love the centre pages with all the pictures of the Journals. I don't have all the Journals, and it's so nice to see them inside the centre pages. I have had a look at all of them on this site of course, but I think it was a great idea to put them all in the centre folder.
Welll done, Tony. I think this has got to be your best so far. Let's hope more people want to subscribe and keep it going, it would be a shame to lose it.

Re: Journal 50
Further to Katharine's post above, after doing the maths a couple of days ago I can tell you that that if you remove the postage, the actual cost of a UK Journal is £2.18!

Re: Journal 50
Just explaining this post a bit more. UK Journals cost £1.10 postage at present, and Royal Mail are keeping the price the same for next year. We have 40 members in Australia and New Zealand and the postage here is currently £3.90. On April 2nd this is going up to £4.70, so as we already make a loss on the current rate, that will just increase the loss for anyone subscribing after that date. All other overseas postage rates are also going up horrendously and I am afraid it is this which is causing the loss and not the UK subscriptions, which is why I said that we needed 32 more (31 now as one came in this morning!). One Australian has kindly paid extra (thanks Aussie Sue!), but it is a problem and there are no easy answers.Tony Summerfield wrote:For those that are interested Journal 50 was posted out today. If you are reading this but are not a subscriber, we still need another 32 UK subscriptions on this issue to break even, as at present it has gone out at a loss.

Re: Journal 50
Maybe make it more expensive, but put more in. I'm sure some of the formites can do something.
Abi.
Still trialling other writers, but will eventually go back to reading a bit of Blyton! Just too many books...
Occasionally will pop in! xx

It's already twice the size of some other fanfic magazines I know for which the same price is paid.
