I noticed that, Kate Mary, and then I realised I have a copy of the society booklet. There are some lovely short poems in it, my favourite is the one about the wheel tapper. I also love the cover of the booklet with the train entering the tunnel.

Oh, that's excellent. I've got an older friend who loves steam railways as well as Enid Blyton (he's also a huge Noddy enthusiast), so I'll send him the link to this book! Fantastic work as always, Tony.

A wonderful slice of history. I agree with John that the poems are fun. I particularly like 'Things I'd Like' because it's so rhythmic and has a wistful note to it - though I had a chuckle at how such a poem might be received today!

I know Tony had a job with the illustrations as most of them had been scribbled on with a pencil, but they look great!

What a lovely little book! I've often wondered if it was a full story or not as the only copy I've ever seen was around £650. Way out of my price range for one book! Thank you for adding it Tony, it s great to finally see what the contents are .

I've got The Wonderful Adventure as a 64 page society booklet. It's a brilliant story.
I see that Tony has added All About Trains to the Cave, another Birn book from 1924. I shall look forward to reading that later. Thanks, Tony.

Just read it and enjoyed it. Very similar to a few other stories that feature children needing to find family treasure otherwise they'll have to sell the house, but just as enjoyable.

I’ve got both A Non-Stop Run and The Wonderful Adventure as Society booklets but it’s good to have them online as well, I can read them on my phone when I can’t sleep without waking up his nibs. I shall enjoy All About Trains on my next sleepless night!

All About Trains is very interesting indeed - particularly the story of the "lazy" porter inventing a signalling system for his own use that was then refined and adopted nationwide! I enjoyed learning about the stick/brass ring system for single-track railways too. Enid Blyton doesn't concentrate only on the positives either:

"Coupling and uncoupling is dangerous work. It sometimes happens that a porter is uncoupling a stiff coupling between two trucks, and the engine-driver looks out and doesn't see him. He gets up steam and off goes the train before the poor porter has time to get free. Many serious accidents have happened in that way."

Yikes!

I've read The Wonderful Adventure several times before, but it was well worth a re-read. What a joyous story, and what a genteel kind of poverty when you claim to have been "poor" ever since your Great-Great-Great Grandfather's time, yet you have a nanny, a governess, a cook, a maid, a charwoman and a gardener - and Mother is able to go away for six weeks to recover from her illness! The children have a lot of fun searching for the family treasure and I'd have loved this book if I'd had it as a young child.

It goes without saying that rare books like these are a form of treasure! Thanks so much to Tony for making them available.

Yes, I have both of those lovely little booklets from the Society. They're a great read and lovely to own.
