Hike:
Anne thought it would be much nicer to read about adventures than to have them.
(..But then probably the ones who only read about them simply longed to have the adventures themselves! It was all very difficult...)

According to the short story 'When Timmy Chased the Cat!', Timmy is a member of the Tail Waggers (a club which raised money for animal welfare). He loses the Tail Wagger badge which hangs from his collar but Anne finds it.

Re: Little facts about The Famous Five
Do any of the Famous Five have birthdays? I don't remember any, but there might be some sort of hint in the book that at least gives us a clue whether it was summer, winter, whatever.
Of course, they could be like Jennings, who was 10 when he started, turned 11 fairly soon, and stayed there for the next 7 years!

Fictional characters stay young because they only live when you read about them. When you put the book down they stop aging.

Re: Little facts about The Famous Five
I seem to remember one of the Five (possibly Julian) mentioning they had a birthday coming up in Five Run Away Together, which was set in the summer. The children took some tinned food etc from a cupboard in Aunt Fanny’s bedroom, and I think Julian says something like “If Aunt Fanny insists we pay to replace the things, I’m bound to get some money for my birthday [in a few weeks]”. Of course, my memory could be playing tricks on me!

Great query about birthdays.
Five Have A Wonderful Time:
Also,
Five Have A Wonderful Time:
"Well, let's go one day when George is here," said Anne. "It only costs five pence to go in. I like old castles. I like the feel of old places."
"So do I," said Julian. "I hope George brings the field-glasses she had for her birthday. We could take them up into the castle with us and see all round the countryside for miles and miles. We could count the seven counties!"
Also,
I am really writing to remind George that it is her grandmother's birthday on Saturday, and she must write to her. I forgot to remind George before she she went, so thought I must quickly send a letter.

Five Have A Mystery To Solve:
‘Mrs Layman’s a nice old thing - she was always giving us little treats when we were little.’
‘And she never forgets our birthdays,’ said Anne. ‘Do you think we could ask George over too - with Timmy?

I’m sure there’s an almost identical couple of lines in one of the Secret Seven books, possibly Three Cheers, where Peter and Janet are discussing a sweet old lady.

George loves old things. From Wonderful Time:
"Faynights Castle," she said. "Hundreds of years old! How I'd love to know all the things that happened there through the centuries. I do love old things. I vote we go and explore it."

Anne can't draw as Dick says in Kirrin Island Again:
'O -- you want to be an artist, I suppose?' said Anne. 'I would like that too!'
'Anne! you can't even draw a cat that looks like one!' said Dick, scornfully. 'And when you drew a cow I thought it was an elephant.'
