I told my daughter that I had posted that picture on here, Anita, and she said "What for?" So I told her and emailed her a copy whilst talking to her on the phone and her reaction was "Oh, I used to love playing with my Lego and I loved that doll as well. Do you know what happened to it?" (the doll). I said I didn't but that it might just be in the loft, if she still had it when we moved here, as we'd moved twice since that picture was taken. No doubt I will have to take a look for her sometime. That is, when I dare venture up there again, but the reason for that is another story because of something that happened to me just before Christmas!!!

I must admit I'm not fond of going up ladders, as I've had arthritis in one foot for some years and it makes me unsteady. Like your daughter, I used to enjoy playing with my baby doll as a youngster, though it was given away to my cousins once I grew out of it.

It wasn't actually going up the ladder, Anita, I was adjusting the ladder which was already in place and it caught the open board that covers the loft opening and it fell and split open the top of my head and almost knocked me out. Fortunately my daughter was here as my head poured with blood and she rushed me the eight miles to A&E where I spent seven hours and they glued the 3-inch gash. I had to have a CT Scan and other checks as I told the doctor that it had almost knocked me out. Thankfully no major damage was found. Now I know what a boxer must feel like when he is almost knocked out. OUCH!!!

Thank you, Monique. Yes, it's all mended nicely. Just now dealing with another issue that came to light at the time, but which I had already suspected - elevated blood pressure - which I have seen my doctor about. It's no fun getting old.:(

Do you have your own BP kit, John? On a surgery visit, my BP goes through the roof. I always take mine at home before any surgery visit. Last week, at home my BP was 131/83, pulse 79. In the surgery, before a routine blood test, it was 151/95, with a pulse of 100!

A cardiologist told me years ago to sit down and relax for twenty minutes, then take three BP measurements. The lowest of the three should be noted as an accurate reading.

Yes I do have one, Nigel. I did a week’s set of tests twice daily for the doctor under more or less the same conditions and handed them into the surgery. They averaged around 150/90 and pulse 79. I’m taking a prescribed medication and in about 10 days I have to do another week of tests having taken the med for 4 weeks.

It's good you are taking medication. Being asymptomatic, there must be many people undiagnosed with hypertension. Good luck!

Thanks, Nigel. I’m sure you’re right about those undiagnosed. Of course one has to be careful they don’t become paranoid using a BP monitor, especially if they don’t use it in the correct way as mentioned earlier.

Ah yes John, the joys of growing older! I am familiar with them too and have been on a prescribed blood pressure medication since my serious illness almost 13 years ago, although in my case it was not due to high BP but rather the opposite! As I often had extremely low BP in the morning it was decided that I should take a medication to regulate it, as apparently a sudden surge in BP could pose a risk for me. Due to the low BP I sometimes felt a bit dizzy in the early morning, but thanks to the medication I no longer experience the dizzy sensation. Good luck with the tests in ten days time and hopefully the outcome will be good.
