Maybe there should have been a third option in the poll 'No Real Preference'.

My preference is real but marginal.
I like those posts where people who have read a whole series give a rating out of 10 for each book. These seem to give a more useful guide to relative merit than the polls.

I voted as I would have when I read them as a child and it was definitely St Clare's back then, love them both as an adult.

Re: Poll - St Clare’s v Malory Towers
I've just started reading Miriam Margolyes' autobiography 'This Much is True' and she admits to a childhood addiction to stories set in girls' schools and thinks she read nearly all 57 Chalet School books, as well those by Dorita Fairlie Bruce. She also liked 'Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories and Miss Blyton's oeuvre in general'. In the entirely unlikely event that I meet Miriam (well, we do live on the same continent now) I'll ask her whether she prefers St Clare's or Malory Towers.
As for myself, I can't truly say, as I read all or any of them as a kind of post-script to my childhood, as my classmates at first-year high school were shocked that I hadn't read any and plied me with copies to borrow. I enjoyed them but didn't remember them as I never owned any or re-read them. As an adult I have re-read Malory Towers (very good) but haven't got around yet to the other series.

I refuse to read censored Enid Blyton books
