The Cave: Picture Missing At Present

A place to post covers of books currently missing in the cave.
The covers we find may obviously not always be good enough to include in the cave.

I wonder if this is a missing cover:

Very subtle differences to the 1968 edition that preceded it - see below:

Is this a 'spot the difference' game Pete? ;)

I'm afraid apart from the obvious "Green Knight" wording, I can't see any difference.

"a green knight book" at the bottom of the cover is missing from the book at the top.

Tony is very handy with photo-editing software, Pete (or at least he was on his old PC!). I sent him a photo of my rather creased and battered copy of Five Are Together Again and it looks brand-new in the cave!

"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

That's it John. Not a great change, but enough to mark it as a different version perhaps.

I agree Fiona. I have given Tony some images that are on a slant and quite battered, but when they enter the cave Tony has made them appear pristine and level!

I wish Tony could physically restore some of my creased dustwrappers to the high standards in the Cave.

I would like to restore some of my books too, John, but now I struggle to repair images for my files and the website. I have a problem with images as the programme I used with my old computer, Micrografx, does not work properly on my new computer with Windows 10. It is unstable and the images jump up and down all the time, so I have to try and catch them when they are not looking! Repairing some images used to take me a long time, I often spent four or five hours working on one, but now even a less than perfect job can take a very very long time and often has to be abandoned.

Coming back to Pete's post above, that is not the missing image needed to replace the 'yella belly'. If you go back to the previous book picture 3 will show you what it should look like. They didn't keep that style for very long which is why it is hard to find and you will see that it is also missing for Wonderful Time, but if you go on again to Down to the Sea it is the first picture in the reprints and after Plenty of Fun the style was phased out.

That's really interesting Tony - Thank you.

I wasn't really sure if my initial picture was the missing cover, as apart from the wording which Katharine instantly spotted it didn't seem very different!

Regards

Pete

That clears up the confusion, Pete.
I'm so glad I've only collected the Eileen Soper hardback editions.
It must be very frustrating for you, Tony, trying to repair images on your new computer. But I can assure you, your time and effort is very much appreciated as the images in the Cave have helped me enormously as I've built up my collection.

I've included a couple of covers - could this be the missing 1994 cover from the cave?

Not sure if Tony still looks in on the forums, or if these pics may be some of the ones still missing.
Even if they are, they may not be good enough quality to be included in the cave.

I like the first one very much, Pete. The snow looks fresh and dazzling, and the children are clearly enjoying gathering clues.

Yes, the first one really does capture the atmosphere of the book! Thanks Pete!
