They are two different images which, when posted without a space or line return between the end and start codes - i.e. [/img][img] - of the two images, will appear on the same line as one image, providing the images aren't too wide. The second image's text may spill onto the next line when you type/paste it in but providing you haven't done the line return the images will appear side by side.

Ah - I see. I just did what I always do - right click on the image, then click on 'copy image address' and then post that into the 'image' 'bracket thingy' on here lol. They must have been too wide.

I actually did a reply this morning explaining the problem that Rob had encountered but for some strange reason it refused to load and eventually I lost the will to live! Life is permanently exciting and challenging with Windows XP - for example I am unable to see any of Boatbuilder's photos (or links!), I just get a message saying his site is not safe!!

I did say that I can't understand what the fuss is about here. The first edition has the intended text and what an incompetent editor has done in a reprint is fairly irrelevant. What is more relevant is that the first edition here is not the original version as it had been serialised in Mickey Mouse Weekly with the title Hurrah for the Secret Seven! and the book was published about four months after the serial finished.

It is good of you to take the time to post the definitive explanation Tony. How you keep going with Windows XP is amazing.

The editorial variances, mistakes and gremlins in the books always fascinate me.

For me, like Pete, 'the fuss' is purely about the incompetent editor who saw fit to add a line - and even then get it wrong, to begin with! Even in modern versions that line is still there - so personally I just find it interesting to find when it was added, and to speculate on why it was added.

I agree, its not important in a way, but I (like Pete I think) just find these little inconsistencies very interesting!

Looks like you should be upgrading your computer from XP, Tony. All my websites have an https security certificate.

Tony explained in another thread that some of his hard- and software won't run on newer versions of Windows. Some software is crucial and he couldn't find a replacement without losing a lot of functionality.

Not wanting to hijack this thread but I know what you mean. I have an old Canon scanner that won’t run on Windows after Vista (or is it XP, I’m not sure now). I enquired about this to Canon and they informed me that they would not be issuing any further updates to the software as the scanner was effectively obsolete. The scanner has a facility that scans 35mm negatives, which was probably what I used most, so if I need to use that I have to use an old computer, although I haven’t done so for some considerable time now. I have recently devised my own method for doing the job, although a bit Heath Robinson. It works with slides but have yet to try it on negatives to see if the reversal works OK.

Seriously though - I thought that too! Or migraines!

I know what Tony means about XP - still the best version of windows in my opinion. My dad still uses Vista, but I've been through Windows 7 and Windows 8 and now the (awful in my opinion) Windows 10. None are as good as Vista. Upgrades that are really downgrades. Computers now seem to be aimed at game playing and sharing everything under the sun - but not for real 'work'.

From my point of view, re:the scanner, it wouldn't make any difference and I guess the same would apply to Tony.
It's all down to the software that controls the hardware and if the hardware manufacturer doesn't update (as Apple also do with their devices after so long) then there's not a lot you can do about it.
