Thank you for your thoughts Daisy and Rob. The only other source material I could not check for 'bony' because I don't have it was:

I've just finished the book and really enjoyed it. Well written, with a plot that moves swiftly along.
If I was an eight year old reader I think I would really have enjoyed this book even more back in the day.

Spotted a change/mistake in a few of my versions - does anyone else have it?

Image
7th impression 1961 page 70/71:
"Shall we take the note to the police?" said Barbara. Barbara, suddenly gripped by a bright idea.

Knight Paperback Seventh Impression 1972 page 58:

My personal pdf electronic version:
date, version unknown:
"Shall we take the note to the police?" said Barbara."
Thanks to Michael for highlighting this book. I'm going to read this next:

On The Trail and Go Ahead are two of the stronger books in the series for me. The night scenes in both are especially dramatic.

Perhaps we could keep the wording but change the punctuation so it reads:
"Shall we take the note to the police?" said Barbara. Barbara, suddenly gripped by a bright idea?!

I'm glad I was able to highlight a book. But I just wanted to say that I know I've drifted away from the forum recently, but sometimes think I'd like not to. I'd hoped to make a comeback of sorts now - but I've been abruptly derailed by things which have suddenly come up, so that I am currently almost not on line at all (beyond occasional brief checking of things), and this may continue for an indefinite period. However, I do hope to come back at least sometimes when my current issues are over, and hope I do not get totally forgotten.

Regards, Michael.

Well you've rekindled my interest in the Secret Seven Michael. So thank you for that.
I also need about five books to complete my hardback collection of Secret Seven's which you have also spurred me on to do!

Regards

Pete

Lol! Not sure how they manage it! :-D Great price! Mind you, some sellers are just looking to get rid of their stock, whereas I am trying to make a bit of pocket money, as I don't have a full time job (except looking after my dad!) :-)

That's odd Pete. My 1952 2nd impression has " Shall we take the note to the police?" said Barbara. Then we turn over the page and the next line is "Oh no, not yet! said George. Has someone added a line by accident in the later version?

It looks as if the "Barbara" on a line on its own, should not be there. My book - older than yours, has the "Shall we.." speech on the last line of page 73 and over the page is George's response. No mention of a bright idea.

My book is a first edition and at the bottom of page 73 says

"Shall we take the note to the police? said Barbara.

Then you turn the page for page 74 which begins.

"Oh no! Not yet" said George. etc etc.

8)
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.
"See that? It's the black Bentley again. KMF 102!"
