The eclipse trick is also a plot twister in one of the Tarzan novels by Burroughs.
ts really interesting to know of Enid`s view on comics whi h were much simpler than ones nowadays. I wonder what she would feel if she would see comics of Human eating Zombies like Walking Dead, private lives of superheroes like Watchmen, fighting government exploitation like V forVendetta. Everything from violence, suspense, gore and sex is prevalent in comics today. They cater to all age groups and in fact more of an adult hobby than a child's.

It's interesting that Edgar Rice Burroughs also used the eclipse trick, Aminmec. According to Wikipedia, it featured in the short story 'Tarzan Rescues the Moon', which was first published in the magazine Blue Book in 1916 or 1917.

Re: Enid Blyton inspired by Marvel comics
I had thought that the first use of the "eclipse trick" in fiction was in Mark Twain's book A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court but I double checked and that book came out in 1889, while Haggard's King Solomon's Mines came out in 1885.
In real life, the explorer Christopher Columbus used the eclipse trick (using a lunar eclipse, not a solar) in 1504 with the indigenous inhabitants of Jamaica.
