Re: Anyone fancy a nice juicy Spring Readathon?
Great — another 2-in-1 like the lovely "Adventure Stories" volume you once gave me, Julie, which I very much enjoyed! I've just bought this one too. Whether or not we do a readathon of Smuggler Ben, I'll look forward to reading it anyway. Thanks, Julie.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

You're welcome. It's a great book. I've just found a paperback I have of the double bill, too, Courtenay. I was just going to contact you and say you can have it, but just read that you've bought one now. Sorry I was a bit late there!

Re: Anyone fancy a nice juicy Spring Readathon?
I think Smuggler Ben is a good one! It's fairly easy to find in various editions. I'm selling one (lol!!)
The best bet is to buy 'Enid Blyton's Mystery Stories' - which contains Smuggler Ben and The Secret of Cliff Castle -
I see the one I was about to link has ended...so hopefully you bought it! It was £3. (Congrats Courtenay - glad it was you!)
If anyone else wants a copy and is in England, I will reduce mine to £4.50 - but you'd need to get it through eBay. Mine is the dust-wrapper version of the book.

Yes, it was me. (Thanks again, Julie.) Even if we don't choose Smuggler Ben for the readathon, it's one I'd like to read, along with Cliff Castle, which I also don't yet know.Rob Houghton wrote: I see the one I was about to link has ended...so hopefully you bought it! A poll would seem to be a quick way of deciding!Julie2owlsdene wrote:I think if you give more than three for an option, we could be discussing what we read until Christmas!

True. Who is going to do the poll?

My three would be
Shadow the sheepdog
Holiday House
Any Mary Pollock book

Re: Anyone fancy a nice juicy Spring Readathon?
Hmmm, well, reading back through the thread, these seem to be the titles that have been mentioned by more than one person as possibilities:Moonraker wrote: A poll would seem to be a quick way of deciding!
Holiday House
Shadow the Sheepdog
The Treasure Hunters
House-at-the-Corner
Smuggler Ben
The Children of Kidillin
The Secret of Cliff Castle
Mischief at St Rollo's
Maybe we could just see if anyone else has any more suggestions to add, and then we can make a poll of the shortlist and each vote for our favourite? I'm not sure how to start a poll, but I'm sure Anita and others here know.

Re: Anyone fancy a nice juicy Spring Readathon?
You have to start a new topic. At the bottom of the subject window (where you write your post) is a box marked "Poll creation". Just click on that.
For example: Board Index>Enid Blyton>Books>New Topic>Poll creation

Smuggler Ben would be my choice.

Re: Anyone fancy a nice juicy Spring Readathon?
Thanks, Nigel. I could start the poll, then, if everyone's happy with that, but I don't want to jump the gun if anyone has other suggestions they'd like to add to the list. We've got 8 titles so far, though, that have been suggested more than once, so maybe we should leave it at that and go ahead?

Re: Anyone fancy a nice juicy Spring Readathon?
Wouldn't it be simpler just to count up how many people have suggested various titles (in this thread) at the end of the 24 hours? Since the poll would have to be in a separate thread, some might miss seeing it altogether and continue to put their suggestions in this thread instead. And people wouldn't be able to vote for any titles that weren't listed on the poll.
But if the majority would prefer a poll, that's fine of course!

Maybe we need a poll to see how many would prefer a poll...?

Looks like we'll be quicker reading the book than we have been choosing which one to read!

I'm starting to lean towards Smuggler Ben if that helps!
