I seem to have overlooked this very early series of books, some stories [not credited to EB] but I'm going to have great fun trying to track down as many of the stories within them, if I can!!

'The Wind' is a lovely poem and Pamela Ingram is lucky to have her work illustrated by E. H. Davie.

As for Bingo (which was the name of Ern Goon's dog some years later), I hope he manages to scoff a few jam tarts before he has to face the music!

Thanks Pete, I really enjoyed that but wonder if the part about the hairdresser clipping her ear with his scissors actually happened?

With regard to questions, I had an aunt who was extremely "nosey" and loved nothing better than finding out details about private or personal matters, after which the information would be relayed to all and sundry with great relish. She always started her "interrogation" with "Do you mind if I ask you...?" On a few occasions when I tried to change the subject by asking her a personal question she fobbed me off with "I'll tell you again", which of course she never did! In those far off days when there was no internet my father used to joke that if one wanted to announce or advertise something one could save the cost of putting it into the newspaper by telling my aunt and adding "its a secret/confidential/personal"!!!

It is lovely that children are so curious about everything - and that they're generally allowed to be!

Yes, children's questions are amazing! When my son was little he once asked me in a very serious voice: "Were there still dinosauers roaming the earth when you were young?" At the time I was not amused but now I think it is very funny!!!

Oh that's brilliant.

One of my children once asked in the dentist waiting room "What are baby bed bugs called?"

I fully expected Social Services to come knocking on my door to see if we had an infestation, as it probably seemed such an odd thing to ask.

I could tell by the suppressed grins on the other patients' faces that most of them had overheard and thought it highly amusing, but I suppose polite convention stopped them from showing they had overheard.
