Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was aired in Britain in the late 1960's - but I don't really remember it. I think I might have seen a few when they were repeated later, but my sister remembers it quite well.

Re: Personal Gems From The Cave Of Books
I'm pretty sure it was repeated on TV at times when I was little — I don't remember really watching it, but everyone knows the theme song and Skippy's little "tsk-tsk-tsk-tsk" (kangaroos in real life don't make any such noises!!). Glad to know it was aired over here as well. I must say, hearing the song and seeing all those shots of gum trees does make me feel a bit nostalgic.

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any Enid Blyton connection at all - even on a subliminal level.
I thought there was only one Skippy but about eight were used in the show...

I remember Skippy quite well. It was shown regularly in Wales in the 1970s.

It was also shown in England, Anita.

Re: Personal Gems From The Cave Of Books
Aww, I didn't know Skippy was so well known in Britain! But I must apologise for dragging this thread off topic, since we've already established that Skippy has absolutely no connection with Enid Blyton.

Re: Personal Gems From The Cave Of Books
I'd always got the impression it was shown before my time...as my sister and older cousin always knew it, but I only vaguely did. However, maybe it was repeated in the 1970's and I just didn't watch it much! I remember the titles and the song, but don't think I watched it as a programme.Eddie Muir wrote:It was also shown in England, Anita.

This topic has been busy while I've been sleeping! I had no idea that Skippy was shown in UK. Glad you all enjoyed the skippy fun too. It was such a 'nice' show for children. There was skippy merchandise too, my children had skippy plates when they were small and insisted on using them for all their meals. And yes Courtney who could miss that theme song.
cheers

Re: Personal Gems From The Cave Of Books
Here's another gem from the cave of books from 1949 that stays on topic too.
When it comes to incorporating characters named Skippy into stories it would seem that Enid certainly got there first.

Re: Personal Gems From The Cave Of Books
An amusing poem. Enid Blyton manages to make the conversation sound very natural while sticking to the rhyme-scheme and rhythm.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.
"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.

I agree. This is a very good rhythmic and natural sound poem!
Thank you, Pete. Otherwise, I am not aware of it although I have that book.
