That's the cover I have too. It's one of my favourite because of the snowy setting. I longed as a child to be snowed in like that!

My son wears shorts at all times including in the snow.

Yes, I always especially enjoy reading Secret Room and Five Go Adventuring Again at this time of year. Really adds to the atmosphere of the books and helps you 'live' the experience.
Five Get Into A Fix isn't one of my favourite FF books at all, so I don't often read it, but whenever I do I'll usually pick this time of the year for the same reason.

Just started reading Shock For The Secret Seven today.
I'm reading two editions as I like the illustrations in each book:

1973 Derek Lucas

The complete Burgess Sharrocks illustrations are in the cave.

The Derek Lucas illustrations for this book can be seen here:

Burgess Sharrocks’ policeman reminds me of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz for some reason. :?

Yes, his face looks like a mask!

It's great to see the different representations side by side. Burgess Sharrocks' cover is very dramatic and quite quirky, as we're with the barking dog looking up at the girls as they climb over the tall fence. It captures the attention immediately, whereas the cover by Derek Lucas is less intriguing.

However, turning to the internal pictures I prefer the one by Derek Lucas as it's more detailed and captures the characters' facial expressions beautifully.

Hope you enjoy your reading of both editions, Pete!

Try in the Five Find Outers series: Mystery of :The Secret Room, Hidden House, Strange Bundle, Strange Message, and Tally Ho Cottage. All Winter based, if not Christmas(ey), at least in the School Christmas Holiday.
