My niece (who lives a very Famous Five life herself on an island in the Pacific Ocean) is turning 11yo in a few months. I would love to introduce her to a new Enid Blyton series as she has been busy devouring the entire Famous Five series over the past 12 months or so. It is so hard to know which one to choose though! I am thinking maybe Malory Towers or St Clares. My own daughter loves the Gallianos Circus books but she is not as advanced a reader as her cousin so wondering if these are a good idea or not.
Thoughts anyone?

How about the Island of Adventure? It's an older read than Famous Five, and the first of what I consider to be the most exciting series. The opening chapter is about two boys struggling with schoolwork - which she might relate to!
The island is likely to be very different from where she lives though!

The set of six books ("Barney Mysteries" or "R Mysteries") beginning with The Rockingdown Mystery would probably also appeal to a Famous Five fan. They're enthralling adventure stories and the language and characters are slightly more sophisticated than in the Famous Five books.
However, I agree with Viv that the "Adventure" series of eight books is the most exciting series, with stories set in a range of thrilling locations - even abroad.
I'd recommend the Find-Outers series too (very different from the Famous Five, but clever mysteries full of humour and unforgettable characters.)

I'd go along with Anita's suggestion of The Find-Outers. These books are a great read and a very popular series. The titles always start with The Mystery of........, so you won't mistake them.

All the Enid Blyton series recommended by forum members are great reads, but I also think that the books in the Mystery (Find-Outers) series are the best. As Anita so rightly says, they present clever mysteries in books which are full of humour and unforgettable characters. I never tire of re-reading them - a true delight!

Definitely try 'The Five Find Outers' - a great set of books, and also the 'Barney' mysery series and the 'Adventure' books.

Thanks for all these suggestions. I will have to see what I can find available in Australia. Maybe I will get her one of each of these series as a taster and then she can collect the rest herself. I remember loving the Rockingdown and Rat a Tat Mysteries myself! I might have to re-read them.
