Rare Books on ebay

Post by Tony Summerfield »

For anyone who feels that they have a fairly deep pocket, have a look at the Birns books on eBay.

I suspect that they will fetch a high price.

If, like me, your pockets are not deep, the full text and illustrations of these books are on the utterly wonderful book listing. I know I've said this before, but thank you Tony, I enjoy all parts of this website but the book listing is just amazing.

Kate.

I enjoyed reading Terry Gustafson's review of The Luck of the Laytons, which was added to the Book Listing a few days ago. The Luck of the Laytons is one of the more substantial Birns books - very interesting indeed, as is Wendy Wins Through which is in the same series.

Indeed it is. Just to crack open a bottle, pull up a chair and wallow in the fruits of Tony's works......ah, bliss; sheer bliss.

Terry's review of The Luck of the Laytons prompted me to read the book again. Wow, the stories are all marvellous in their simplicity. Amazing, and Terry's review is, as usual, wonderful.

I think that I was right to talk about a fairly deep pocket as they sold for £537.21!

Lovely books - good luck to the buyer!

I'd rather have the wonderful facsimile editions from the society than the real thing: much cheaper and just as good, if not better, because i'm not too scared to read them!

Of course, if an original 'Birn Bros' book just happened to land in my lap or turned up at the back of the loft, then I wouldnt complain either...! 8)

Last year at the EB Day the EB society were selling reprinted versions of 'Luck of the Laytons' as well as some of the other Birns books. I've bought all mine from the Society. they are usually available in limited numbers. I have 'A Non-stop Run', 'Sports and games', 'Farmyard tales', 'Jolly Times', 'Fun in Toytown', 'The Exciting Birthday', 'tales of the circus', 'The Luck of the Laytons', 'Wendy Wins through' and the three 'Letters from Bobs' books, all facsimiles (copies :D ) of the original books. They are usually available to members only and are well worth having, as its one of the only chances many of us will ever have of seeing these Birn books up close.

I also have 'The Wonderful Adventure', which was used as a limited edition EB Day programme years ago. :D :D

All the recent ones are available in the website shop - but I don't think that anyone ever looks at that!

I have the facsimiles too - very reasonably priced and well worth reading, Julie. Many are still available from the Society Shop as Tony says:

Thanks for the link Anita, and the reminder Tony. I do occasionally look at the on line shop, but have to confess I haven't for a few months, and so didn't see some added additions.

I have now contacted Tony as I am going to purchase a few items I would like to have. :D
