Overall Favourite Series

Post by Raci »

We all have individual books that stand out in our minds for all sorts of reasons but I wondered which series overall is peoples favourite?

My favourite series would have to be The Adventures of......

(Even though my top three books are each in other series and each in different series to each other - LOL)

Which are they, out of interest?

Which series do you mean by 'The Adventures of...'? Valley, Ship, Castle etc?

I've chosen the Adventure books which interestingly I read before the Famous Five. The Famous Five would have to come a very close second. There was more to the Adventure series somehow and I loved the children and Kiki! It made me want a parrot!

Hi!
You spotted the deliberate typing error. LOL

It was a genuine mistake, I did of course mean ..... of adventure as I typed in the poll - goodness knows where my brain went though to have typed it completely different in the post written at the same time

 Oh Well! I'll get more sleep next week

Hi everyone :)

For all the newcomers to the Society, lots of polls on different questions have been set up if you want to vote. (Go to "Search" and type in "poll" and they will all come up). This one is similar to another poll currently attracting plenty of attention, but this one has a few other choices on it. It's been buried for a while, but I thought it would be worthwhile bringing it to the forefront again.

*beams at TOny*.

I guess FF is one of those series's that appeals to everyone .. and yet SS isn't. Why is that? I don't like SS personally and I've met quite a lot of people who don't either. Is it bad writing? Unsympathetic characters?
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.

I think the SS's are not so popular because they are rather short and Peter is terribly boring, worse than Julian imo. I voted for Adventure series.

Totally forgettable characters, IMO. They all tend to merge, apart from Peter, Jack and Susie (and she wasn't even in the SS). Whereas in other series, the characters all have their own personalities.

I always thought that about Larry and Daisy. In fact, the Find-Outers is pretty much a grown-up version of the Secret Seven.

Ah, you've put it just right. I thought the Adventure Series were the grown up versions of Famous Five series.... don't know why! And as for Larry and Daisy, well, I never paid much attention to Bets, I liked Daisy better, but as I can now understand better, I prefer Bets. And Larry is a background after the second book. Pip plays a greater role than him, but even his place is small.

Yes, let's face it; Fatty solved all the crimes, but only after Bets dropped a massive, though unintentional hint. How would Jenks and Fatty fare without Bets?

They won't be able to do anything. As you said, Fatty solved all the crimes, but only after Bets dropped a hint. And I think Fatty solved only five or six mysteries without a last minute hint from Bets. She may be eight, but I think she was the smartest of the lot! (when compared to age and hints dropped by them).
