"Lashings"
In Five go down to the Sea we have the only incidence that I can recall of the word "Lashings" being used. We know of course that the famous term "lashings of Ginger Beer" was never actually used in the books but I had quite thought that the word never appeared at all. Wrong, it is Dick who refers to "lashings of hard boiled eggs". Are there any other incidences of this or other "iconic" Blyton phrases that anyone can think of?

I think the word lashings only appeared in Five Go Mad in Dorset, other than, of course, the one you pointed out. I suppose it is rather ironic!!

Re: "Lashings"
iconic .
I can't really think of any others apart from single words like 'smashing' and 'super' but I guess you can see those in lots of places other than just in Blyton

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Re: "Lashings"
Yeah I wonder if Lashings was a popular word that everyone used back then or something Blyton made up. Nice to see you back Moose BTW. You seem to have been missing a bit lately or am I imagining things again?

Hi Lucky Star - yeah I've been a bit scarce, lots of family stuff going on . SOme of it good (new nephew a week ago) and some of it bad (some serious health problems, including a heart attack, among close family members).

Keep your chin up as I know you will. We look forward to your full return to the Blyton fold.
