I have a Mary Mouse one and a Noddy one. :-)

Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes

Daisy wrote:I bought a non-Blyton book today but the book seller, who knows my tastes, produced from behind his counter two little strip books - "Mr Tumpy plays a trick on Saucepan" and "Mr Tumpy in the Land of Wishes" . I expressed some interest in them and he said I could have them ... and he also knocked off £2.00 from the £12.00 which the other book should have cost. My lucky day, eh?
Looking in the Cave I see they are not first editions as the covers are different but I have no idea of the vintage as there is nothing to indicate this in either of them.

8) They have two pictures on each page and some text underneath each picture.

Yes, the stories are all Blyton originals. On the link below you can see the one you are in most doubt about.

I'm a bit surprised that you have got a different picture as I didn't think that any of these strip books (and there are several in the same format) were reprinted and I have certainly never seen different covers. In the past I have had a few people telling me that they have a strip book that isn't in the Cave, but in every case they have had the same book but the cover is missing and what they are looking at is just the title page which they think is the cover.

That's interesting. I have a strip book of 'Mary Mouse Goes To Sea' which looks exactly like the copy you have in the cave, which you have listed as first edition 1960...but the seller wrote in pencil in the front of my copy 'reprint circa 1964' - though I have no idea how they knew this! Does it depend on the list of titles on the back cover?

Thanks for the Noddy link, Tony. :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

We are getting into a bit of a muddle here, my fault for doing a couple of quick posts just before I went to bed! I was talking about the Sampson Low strip books, which of course are a completely different format to the Mary Mouse books, and to the best of my knowledge they were never reprinted - although as with everything Blyton I am always happy to learn something new.

The Mary Mouse books are completely different as Brockhampton reprinted them all a number of times and several of them had a change of cover which should be illustrated in the Cave.

That's a nice buy there Pete! I'd be interested in the dates and impression number of each one. I still have a slight hankering to pin down the exact edition where those Knight paperbacks made the switch from Soper to Maxey.

Tony probably knows the answer off the top of his head!
I'm going to re-scan and tidy up up all the Maxey Five illustrations for the Maxey Famous Five illustrations thread.
