Enjoy yourself at Battersea Katharine!

So, how many dogs are you planning on bringing home? :D

Thanks Poppy. I'll try and have a good time, I won't be bringing any dogs back though.

You'll be fine, Katharine. As Anita says, there is nothing to worry about being in the area alone. I feel safer in London than I do in Salisbury. In fact, the most intimidating group of people I met were in Polperro, Cornwall! Battersea Park is lovely, we have taken our grandson there and he loved it too!

Yes, there were riots at Clapham Junction - the area is called Clapham Junction, the riots weren't in the railway station.

But isn't Salisbury rather rough? All those strange accents and weird ways!

I saw the fox in a street near to Acanthus Road off Lavender Hill where my friend's sister lives. I've never seen any trouble when I've been, but I wouldn't feel particularly comfortable walking around there myself.

Is that something to do with the Lavender Hill Mob? Foxy would be an ideal

I suppose most places have their less appealing parts. It's just that if you live somewhere you know where to avoid. I've found bus routes to the places we need to go, even though it's only about a 15 minutes walk, I think it's probably a better option than trying to find our way in the dark in a strange place.

I wish I could find my copy of Starlight by Ida Pollock. I can't be certain without checking the book, but I seem to recall that Hugh lived at Beaufort Mansions again later on, with his third wife Ida (not necessarily the same flat but the same building).

I've just returned from Battersea. I spent a very enjoyable time this afternoon wandering over Battersea Bridge and seeking out Enid Blyton's flat. So that's 3 of her former homes I've tracked down now.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I didn't have time to check out Battersea Park, and although I could have returned back to my original starting point via the river walk, I didn't feel like wandering along there by myself. There's the possibilty I may return some time early next year, and if I do, hopefully I'll get the see the other sites in the area.

As I stood outside Beaufort Mansions clicking away away with my camera, I couldn't help wondering how much it had changed since Enid lived there. One thing I can be fairly certain about, she wouldn't have had jumbo jets flying overhead every couple of minutes.

I'm glad you enjoyed your afternoon in Battersea, Katharine, and that you saw Beaufort Mansions. If you get the chance to post a few photographs here, it would be nice to see them.
