After returning from my break today, the above book was waiting for me in the mountain of my post.

How did it end up coming through my letterbox?

I have a really battered ex library version of this book already, but this £3.11 copy (inc postage) is in pristine condition.
The dustjacket and the pages are crisp and clean.

How did I end up with this bargain?
My first suspect is my wife. I had been treating her to fish & chips at the beach cafe, and then taking her for a pint of Guinness at the cosy Aberporth pub when she went a bit cryptic.....

I ordered this book once before at a cheap price.
The seller said it had become lost in his stocks after I had bought it.

He then re-listed the very same book a few days later at an extortionate price.
I alerted ebay, so I was very surprised that this book was actually sold and delivered at such an amazingly low price!

I think Enid probably wasn’t the mother Imogen needed & Imogen may later not have been best suited for boarding life. In my opinion & experience, full boarding only truly suits a surprisingly small number.

This doesn’t mean Enid was necessarily a bad mother. She was very much of her time & background. I was impressed by her preventing Imogen’s expulsion at Benenden. I think Imogen was too.

When I read the Naughtiest Girl, Malory Towers and St. Clare's books I used to think boarding sounded fun, but I doubt I'd have enjoyed it in reality. I'd have missed having time to myself for one thing, as I spent an enormous amount of time reading as a child. Being parted from my books would have been as hard as being parted from my family!

Come to think of it, there's a girl with a similar name in Anne Digby's Trebizon series - Ishbel Anderson, whose friends call her Tish.

It could also be "Johabel", but this name is more linked to Spanish or Portuguese people.
