Re: Malory Towers TV series
I'd read about Series 5 having 20 episodes but I've no idea whether it will be the final series.

As for covering the final two books, there is very little evidence of much covering at all. Most of the plots have little or nothing to do with the books.

Re: Malory Towers TV series
I enjoyed the first 3 series, especially 3. But series 4 had too much of the first form I thought, and was disappointing.
Not that I am the target market for this, so it doesn't matter too much!

Re: Malory Towers TV series
Interesting comments, Lenoir. I thought the fourth series was particularly good, and it made sense to establish the first formers strongly if the programme-makers had a fifth series in mind (which they clearly did!) The third series was actually the weakest for me because I found the "evil headmistress" plotline too far-fetched.

Re: Malory Towers TV series
Does anyone know when Fifth Formers is likely to be shown on television? I wonder how closely they can stick to the book in this one. They made June a likeable and vulnerable character by the end of the last series so it's unlikely they'll have her sending poison pen letters in the new series. Also the Maureen storyline wouldn't really stand up to modern day scrutiny. And the second series focused on a school play so the pantomime story would just be a repeat.

Only just caught up on the latest series. Though some of us had issues with some of the changes, Malory seems quite true to the books when compared with the new FF series.
I do wonder if there are any caucasian schoolgirls left in Cornwall though..

Re: Malory Towers TV series
I finally watched the Christmas specials last month even though I haven't watched series 3 yet. Overall I thought they were pretty good, though episode one was stronger than episode two. I am happy that I identified the ghost after episode one, as I don't often manage that

I haven't watched this and I'm not really interested, even though I really enjoyed the books. I have very little faith in Hollywood's, and whatever the British equivalent is, ability to make period pieces nowadays without filling them with frustrating anachronisms.

Re: Malory Towers TV series
I don't know when the fifth series of Malory Towers is being broadcast (except that it's sometime this year) but the interior scenes were filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol this time, instead of in Canada. Apparently there's a new matron too - Matron Shipley, played by Amanda Lawrence.

Oh no, I loved Ashley McGuire! I know that her version of matron was a complete fabrication but to me she was one of the best parts of the BBC show.
