Re: The 77/78 TV series: Little mistakes and special moments
Well I've just connected the Blu Ray to my computer monitor but no great improvement there. But since you've just posted that picture above Pete, I will note my observations that all the books in that pile have the blue or green square about the Knight logo ( easier to see on my screen ) and that the titles I can almost certainly read are Finniston, Adventuring, Camp and Smugglers. I cannot read the title on the book at the bottom of the pile.
I can get a match for the top orange-backed Finniston volume as the 1970 Knight as shown on the cave of books page, and I have just found an ebay picture for a set of four books that includes this book with a shot of the rear cover too. There's a blurb at the top, plenty of empty space, then at bottom a Green Knight logo and the set of prices for the various countries. Not conclusive, but I'm warming up.
I will now try the Blu Ray on my most swankiest OLED tele, but as I can't get any sort of screen shot, you'll just have to take my word or humour me if I come back with any great revelation tonight. I have some other stuff to do too but as usual I'm playing Famous Five ....

Great! Thank you FFDU
I'm sure you noticed the ventriloquists dummy in George's room as her mum opened the bedroom door too.
I thought that was a little out of place as a toy that George Kirrin would posses!

Re: The 77/78 TV series: Little mistakes and special moments
True Pete, and when my 14 y.o. son saw this recently ( he hasn't seen a lot of the 70s series ) he found this one a little creepy and asked for another look just to make sure he hadn't been seeing things.
I'm afraid I can't make out two of the titles in that pile, and there's really nothing more to add tonight. I'll keep it on the back burner!

Update on the 'Famous Five or No' books mystery
Have a low-tech picture I got by photographing my own TV. I'm waiting for a gadget to come in the mail so I can capture to computer. I think the books are from top down Finniston Farm ( orange back ) Camp ( blue/mauve back ) not visible in this shot - Kirrin Island Again -Smugglers Top - Unsure - Adventuring Again - Unsure
Also a picture of some book covers. Quite a lot of variation in back cover design, some with pictures, some not, the position of the blurb moves, and the 'Green' designation and explanation seems to have been dropped by 1970 or so. The left book is Finniston, and I include it as, even thought the blurb is nowhere near legible in the screen shot, it is in the correct spot, and the 'shape' of text in the blurb looking from the bottom are a match. Short last line ( Finniston Castle ) , longest line is third from bottom, and the relative lengths appear to be as for the screenshot.
I am not sure I'll ever be able to read the spines clearly, but that's all for now. Happy puzzling!!

Re: The 77/78 TV series: Little mistakes and special moments
Okay, I know I promised to get you a better pic ... this is the best I will ever get I think after buying a new thingamygig for my computer, allowing me to take a still from the disc directly.
A slight improvement I think, I have cropped, sharpened and rotated the image so we're not trying to read upside down. Happy for people to have whatever opinion they like as to whether this lot are Famous Fives or not, and I've already put my five cents in.
I think the two unidentified titles are looking like Treasure Island ( now on top ) and Caravan in there in the middle.
Well that's been a bit of fun.

Well that's me proven wrong then. How on earth did they get away with that! Naughty Bob Cartwright...

Ha well as far as 'who's responsible for that' you will be by far the best qualified to comment. Bob Cartwright most likely then???

Many thanks FFFDU - They are my era Five books and I did think they looked like the Betty Maxey versions.
A great find. Now I wonder if anyone hid any Eileen Soper hardbacked books anywhere in the tv series?

Thanks for the improved picture, FiveFanDownunder. It's crazy but fun to see these books in George's room!

Re: The 77/78 TV series: Little mistakes and special moments
Going by length of words I'd guess the books are: (top to bottom)
Five on a Treasure island
Five go Adventuring again
Five go off in a Caravan (not totally convinced-the last word looks like "caravan" but there's only 3 small words I can seebetween "Five" and "Caravan"-but no others fit that either)
Five go to Smuggler's Top (Actually shouldn't it be "Smugglers' Top"? Lots of smugglers!)
Five on Kirrin Island Again
Five on Finniston Farm
Five on a Treasure island
Five go Adventuring again

Re: The 77/78 TV series: Little mistakes and special moments
Debbie,
Completely agree with you regarding titles and also that something is odd about the Caravan title ... a mark or tear on the spine or something that is not sufficiently clear to be seen properly.
I suppose we'll never know exactly what ...
* EDIT and thanks for your thoughts about the plural apostrophe ... unless the place was named in honour of Mr Barling himself. Did the book say he once lived at Smuggler's Top? I can't recall, but there was some connection he had to the place beyond Block and the signals!

Hi Natalieb,
I’ve become quite used to this theme having bought the German Bluray a few months back. It plays first on the menu screen, then the English.
Since we’re at it, let’s travel south always and tune in to this version:
