Hmm...

I've been thinking about that...
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

When once the itch of literature comes over a man, nothing can cure it but the scratching of a pen.

It's a shame they didn't use her to dub the German voice of George! Actually, I only know of one series where an actor has dubbed his character in a foreign-language version - Andrew Sachs did the voice of Manuel in the German version of 'Fawlty Towers' (complete with Spanish accent!), as he speaks fluent German.

Ah, I said she spoke German, not that she was fluent or anything.

Until I read this thread I didn't realize that Michele was no longer with us.

Can anyone tell me any more, such as how Michele died, and when, at what age etc. I've not read anything at all, but do remember her playing the part of George in the late 70's series.

It's very sad, Julie, but it seems that Michele took her own life. There's some more information in the following thread:

Thanks Anita for posting the following thread.

I read through all the posts. How sad that Michele is no longer with us, and only just last year really, came to light.

I bought my daughter the Famous Five video's back in the early 80's, and used to watch them with her. I've since got them back, and thankfully still have a video, to watch them on. As someone suggested, it would be really good if they could all come out now, on DVD's and even include interviews by the actors, Gary and Marcus, now in their 40's, and others who played leading roles.

I hope that one day someone who knew Michele Gallagher will feel able to share some more details of her life with us.

As Anita says, it would be lovely if someone could share more actual facts regarding Michele's life, and demise with us.

I also had mail-contact with Sean and he seemed nice and honest to me (just as Zoe said). For example, he wrote that Michele used to watch the series together with him when he was a child. And that she told him that she always was the mischievous one during the filming and really loved Toddy the dog. He also told me the name of the German town where Michele´s mother grew up and Michele sometimes spent a holiday.

I did not ask anything about the accident and her life afterwards because that is really none of my business.

But probably he was mobbed by lots of people who treated him with less respect.

To me Michele is still alive – in the series. And she will always be.

Sorry that's a pious hope. But before this will be happening I would have already revived old odd spirits of Southern Television.

Anita
Yes, it´s a kind of relief that she obviously liked to watch the series together with her son.

On the other hand, it is sad that (as Sean told me) she never acted again after the
Famous Five and lost contact gradually with the other three.

As Gary wrote in his memories, the last meeting of all the Four was at the National Theatre (far back in 1980) for a Daily Mail-feature which was never run. :(

I was a friend of Michele's many years ago, I went to school with her and we lived close by. We spent quite a bit of time together during those years but unfortunately due to circumstances we lost touch. I am saddened to hear that she has passed away, and by no means am I trying to pry, but I would dearly like to pay my last respects to her. If anyone can help please PM me.

Thank you Anita, that's thoughtful of you.

Although, I had lost contact with Michele years ago, she is one of those people you meet in life that you never forget.
