.... if it weren't for stock phrases in Enid Blyton novels?

C'mon, anyone who has been a fan of The Famous Five will know that without EB's "lashings of" and her various characters' fascination with this particular beverage, there wouldn't have been an ad like this.
Mwahahahahaaaaaaaa....
Can anyone say this advert would NOT have been made....

You gave me just the amusement I needed to call it a day, thanks Jamie.

Glad to be of service, old egg.

Yes, a great advert - and I have tasted Crabbie's many times, Dick! It is generally thought that Enid never used the phrase, 'lashings of ginger beer' - however, she did use, 'lashings of lettuce'.

Did any of the poor boys ever get 'lashings' of the cane? Or was that a good 'lamming'?

Never mentioned in The Famous Five, but I do recall various wrongdoing's at St. Rollo's being punished with "being rapped across the knuckles with a ruler". Not very terrifying.Moonraker wrote:Did any of the poor boys ever get 'lashings' of the cane? Or was that a good 'lamming'?
