Re: 70s Famous Five on DVD?
Have a little question to the Uk DVD-release. Are there existing subtitles and is the text (if it exists) the same what is said? friendly greetings, from Flensburg (Germany)

You can select subtitles if you wish and they are very close to what is actually said, though there are lots of punctuation mistakes.

Thank you for the info and the little warning of punctuation mistakes.

I'm guessing it's not an English person then because of all the punctuation mistakes?

Re: 70s Famous Five on DVD?
I rarely use the subtitles feature on DVDs so I don't know whether it's common for punctuation to be poor. Why should that be the case, I wonder? I understand that mistakes occur when subtitling a live TV programme but I can't see why the same should apply to subtitles prepared for a film or programme on DVD.

Me neither, but any times I've misheard & checked back with subs, there usually seems to be some error or other.Anita Bensoussane wrote:I rarely use the subtitles feature on DVDs so I don't know whether it's common for punctuation to be poor.
Probably something to do with available time for the words to be on screen.Anita Bensoussane wrote: Why should that be the case, I wonder? Yes, I can see that some abridgement might be necessary but things like missing apostrophes are annoying.

Re: 70s Famous Five on DVD?
Wouldn't surprise me if the same reason applied. Knock the odd apostrophe or comma out & gain space for an other word...

Or just that the people they hire don't know their possessive from their plurals.

No. 'Their' is right in this case Zar Quon. I saw the face in front of your comment, but I don't know if you knew what is right and so put a false correction, or winked just cause you corrected Fiona. Anyway, I haven't interacted much with you yet, so I don't know anything about you. Just saying and all...

Afraid I don't get the joke either - especially as ZQ's quote doesn't replicate Fiona's post.....
