Noddy - 1975

Post by nlgbbbblth »

Does anybody have memories of the BBC's 1975 Noddy adaptation?

I remember it being showed on Irish television during the late 1970s. Most of the 24 stories were covered - according to my memory.

I would love to see a DVD release.

Here is the intro and theme from you tube.

Good old YouTube, eh? Thanks for that link, Paul, but I prefer this one. Noddy seems to be driving with a little more care, and the secenery is more reminiscent of the books' endpapers.

Noddy! The cartoons were aired here on Cartoon Network a few years back but not any more.

Yes, I think they stopped coming in 2005 or something. When the cartoons aired, I sometimes used to watch them - but I always hated Noddy! By far, I liked Bob the Builder. 8)

The 1975 adaptation is the one I grew up with, and was very close to the stories in each of the original books.

I have quite a few episodes on videos, picked up in charity shops, but it's never been released on DVD as far as I know. 8)

I was only two in 1975, but very, very vaguely remember a puppet version of Noddy, so perhaps they repeated it for several years afterwards.

Similar memories of 'The Adventures of Rupert Bear' which had been made slightly earlier. I'd never heard of Enid Blyton back then and I'm sure there was a time when I thought Noddy and Rupert were connected - and probably even written by the same person!

I loved Rupert, complete with his magic chariot, which flew! 8)

Rupert Bear ! Very much a staple part of my TV viewing in the early 1970's along other classics such as Pipkins and Rainbow. :D I remember Noddy being screened but never really got into it.

I loved all those 1970s children's programmes and remember them with great affection - except Noddy, which for some reason I only recall very vaguely. I didn't even realise until I was in my teens that Noddy, Big-Ears and the other Toyland folk were anything to do with Enid Blyton!

I remember that this was on but for some reason I never ever watched it. Perhaps I considered it too babyish. I never really read Noddy as a child, went straight from the Bedtime Stories type of books into the Adventure series.

This particular adaptation of Noddy [with Richard Briers narration] was repeated well into the 1980s. It seems to have vanished off the radar now.

I just can't help it! Pity he's made of wood - 'poking' him is a bit hard on the fingers!

I, like Anita, also didn't realise that EB had written the Noddy books until i was in my teens, so i don't look back on him with any affection from those days, but i must admit a certain fondness for him now. :D

I am however grateful to him for keeping EB in the news over the years, if not always for the right reason.

When I hear Richard Briar's voice it always takes me right back to my childhood 'Noddy' viewings! Such a distinctive voice. :D
