30th Anniversary of the "The Famous Five" 1978

Post by peppermint peppy »

On 3rd July of 2008 one of the most popular TV-series celebrates its 30th anniversary

The "The Famous Five"from 1978.

Pity we haven't got a chance to buy one of our most valuable childhood memories in form of a DVD collection to this day.
Anyway!
Thank you Jenny,Marcus,Gary and Michele+ for this wonderful & unforgettable series.
Hope you meet one another for celebrating a little bit if possible and wished-for.

Hugs and Kisses

Wow 30 years already. How time flies. Yes its a great pity that we cannot enjoy a wonderful digitally restored DVD release on this anniversary. Maybe for the fortieth?

I vote that we all agree an episode to watch on the 3rd of July and then discuss it afterwards. A sort of readathon but with an episode of the Five instead. Anyone up for that?

You forgot Toddy PP.

Smashing idea, Lucky Star - count me in! Perhaps we could watch the chosen episode at our own convenience in the run-up to the 3rd of July, and begin the discussion on that date? I think the whole 1970s series is now available on YouTube.

30 years? Wow!

"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

Count me in too. :D A lovely idea. I've got a few video's, wish we could get them on DVD though. But I guess YouTube is the next best thing.

Once we've discussed the 1970s episode we could even watch the same one from the 1990s series and compare the two.

Ha ha, joke! Actually, I only started getting the hots for Jemima whilst watching Hex. She was a little too young in the nineties!

She would make a great guest for a future Society Day - just let Norman try to bring that talk to an early close!

You can count me in, thirty years is a very long time, yet in many ways it has gone by rather too quickly, Am I getting old?

An excellent idea Anita. For those not lucky even to have both Famous Five series on VHS or DVD, there is always Youtube as already mentioned. Virtually all the 78 series episodes are available and quite a few from the 90s series as well.

Another great idea, but the biggest problem would be getting past Miss Rooper's agent. Such people tend to be very protective of their clients.

I actually tried to get her last year. I phoned her mother and we chatted for a while. She said she was sure that Jemima would love to come, but it's the usual problem with a busy actress, she couldn't commit herself all that far ahead because of filming schedules, and any decision would have to be a last minute one.
