Anita, I had no idea that “Carolyn Keane” was the pseudonym of a syndicate of authors!

My sister and I read twenty or so Nancy Drew titles as children and we assumed Carolyn Keene was a real author. It was only as an adult that I discovered the books were written by a syndicate.

I remember an argument I had with my sister where I said I was sure Carolyn Keen and Franklin W Dixon (Hardy Boys) were the same person. She was certain I was wrong.

I was delighted to find (as an adult) that they were each written by a syndicate that shared several of the same people. I haven't pointed this out to her yet.

My sister had heaps of the Nancy Drew and read them lots. I think I had a read once or twice, but probably felt they were for girls ( hey, sorry, I was a product of less flexible thinking back then I'm sure ) but I did have quite a few of the Hardy Boys, which as you point out Debbie is the same idea pitched to the boys! I remember enjoying them, but not as much as the Five ...

Heh - I'd have loved to have sung the Famous Five theme tune at school!

Just found another a TV Times promotional image from Season Two, for Five Go Down to the Sea. Not so good quality this time I’m afraid:

Wow! I haven't seen this image, thanks for posting. It's amazing how new photos keep appearing. This must be Dancing Ledge where they must have taken plenty of shots, one making it as a book cover, and another I have seen quite a few times. But this one is new ( to me )

Happy to help! Just sorry it’s not better quality. If I find any more FF 1978 photos, I’ll share them.

EDIT: Just realised I have already shared the above photo on the previous page, in somewhat better quality too!

Hi, I came across this site today whilst searching FF photos. I believe the B&W photos posted at the beginning of this thread were taken by my dad who was a cameraman on FF in 78. I have one of the photos posted and also another which I haven’t seen on here but haven’t yet worked out how to post photos! My dad gave them to me when I was young - I was 8 while he was filming FF.
I also have 12 of the scripts. He gave me them each time he finished filming an episode and I used to take them to school and make my friends act them out 🙈🤣
My dad sadly passed away unexpectedly in March and I wish I had found this site earlier as I’m sure he would have had many stories to tell of filming!!

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forums. Sorry for your loss. Gary Russell ( Dick Kirrin in the series) is on this site. He especially will be interested in your scripts.

Welcome Sarah, sorry to hear about your father.

Lovely to hear about you acting out the scripts with your friends, sounds like fun.

I remember watching the series when it was on TV.

Thank you. I did see Gary had posted on here and I wondered if he remembered my dad. There were a few cameramen I think but I’m pretty sure dad did those promo shots. He always liked to work in B&W. I’m hoping we may find a few more amongst all his boxes of photos - although he did have a clear out a few years ago so I’m slightly concerned he may have thrown them out 🙈 hopefully not!!

Welcome, Sarah! Sorry for your loss, but it's lovely to hear that your dad was a cameraman on the Famous Five series. I was eight in 1978 and my sister and I also used to act out Famous Five stories with our friends after reading the books and watching the TV series. We'd have loved to have had some of the TV scripts!
