Hi,
Can anyone tell me the name of the EB short story (or possibly novel) in which two mischievous characters get turned into pigs. All I can remember about it is that they grow curly tales and maybe the transmogrification was the work of a witch.
It would also be interesting to know which volume of stories it was in.
Possibly there was also a short story in which the golliwogs set fire to the dolls’ house using brown paper!

The golliwog who smoked is one of my favourite short stories, but brown paper wasn't the cause of the house fire!
I can't think of a pig story though.

I’m wondering whether this was actually an EB story. Maybe the characters weren’t completely turned into pigs but they definitely ended up with curly pigs’ tails and snouts. I can’t remember why: maybe they had been greedy!

I remember a story about one character growing a pig's tail. Guzzle the brownie is a greedy fellow and Witch Grumble casts a spell on him when he gobbles up all her new-made cakes. The tale is 'The Greedy Brownie' and it can be found in The Red Story Book.
My copy of The Red Story Book is a 1970s Dragon paperback and a few stories that were in the original hardback are missing from that edition (as I can tell from looking at our Cave of Books - see the link below). One of the tales that has been removed is 'The Golliwog's Trick'. I've no idea what that's about but it's just possible that it's the story you're thinking of, Dickie, about the dolls' house being set on fire. Maybe someone who has the hardback could check.

Yes, The Golliwog's Trick in The Red Story Book is about a golly setting a fire in the doll's house.

Anita's Dragon paperback was the first new edition and if that is abridged then I reckon all other editions after that will be too. To be safe I'd get a Methuen hardback, mine is a 7th reprint from 1955 and still has all the stories.
