Peronel's Magic Polish, Plus Others

Post by rockybar »

Trying to identify a book I used to read to my daughter, it included-
1 Peronels magic polish, about a boy who polished floors in a palace
2 A story about three people carrying sacks that got heavy when it rained
3 A story about a laundry owned by a deranged witch who made the equipment attack someone

plus a few other stories I don't remember. The book was bought in the 1990s

any ideas?

The second story in Volume One of 'Teacher's Treasury' is called 'Peronel's Polish.'

Whilst employed at the King of Fairyland's palace, Peronel invents a magic (but slippery) wax and uses it on some candlesticks to great effect. He also polishes the King's crown and some gold chairs, but when the ballroom floor is furbished with his product, the dancers slip and fall over bumpity-bump.

This tale ends similarly to one or two others and Peronel's now working hard at his new occupation ..... polishing buttercups.

A 1990's publication may contain this account plus the extra tales mentioned although an extensive search of the Fabulous Cave of Books might be necessary to locate an answer.

Peronel is down as a fairy.
