I think it might be Mr Longfield talking to Cyril in Six Cousins at Mistletoe Farm.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Spot on, Eddie.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Thanks, Fiona. :D

Here's a new one:

She taught the unsuspecting BLANK such words as 'fiddlesticks ', 'piffle' and 'scrumplicious', which, of course, was a mixture of scrumptious and delicious.

Who was taught the words and by whom, and who was astonished when she heard the words - and in which book?

I think that's Mamzelle Rougier's niece Suzanne, who teaches the Sixth Formers in Last Term at Malory Towers? Much to the astonishment of their class teacher?

I've read all the Malory Towers books many times over!

"Blank's mad on sausages," said Blank. "S/he'd eat them for breakfast, dinner and tea."

Fill in the blanks and the book!

Is it Diana talking about Snubby in Rilloby Fair?

It's not - but I thought someone would guess that!

Is it Dick talking about George, in Five Have a Mystery to Solve? I remember a conversation about sausages, but it could possibly be Timmy it referred to.

It's a while since I've read it, but I think it's from The Adventurous Four and it's Jill talking about Tom.

At the risk of us having a monopoly on the game... you're right, Eddie so back to you again!

Well done Eddie - it seems Enid was impressed with the sausage consumption of children back then! I'm sure with the Five too, sausages came high up the list of favourite breakfasts!

Thanks, Fiona and Daisy. :D

Here's another random selection from the first book taken from one of my book shelves:

"I hope you weren't going to see me, children. I am going down to clean out the church, and I shan't be back till six."

Who is speaking? Who are the children referred to? Which book?

Could it either be either "Mother Hubbard" or Naomi Barlow in Ring O'Bells Mystery to Diana, Roger and Snubby?

It is Naomi Barlow in Ring o'Bells Mystery and she is speaking to the children you have mentioned.

Over to you again, Fiona. :D
