Yes Hannah, it is. Well done and over to you.

Here it is:
“So the fierce little boy has turned out to be quite ordinary after all!” she said. “Well, I must say I’m glad. I didn’t very much like to think of a little savage rushing about the shore armed with a sharp knife. I think it’s very nice of him to lend you his boat. You had better bring him in to a meal, and then I can see him for myself.”

Next quote:

Jack made them laugh by saying that he kept wanting to say 'Yes, sir!' every time a jackdaw called 'Chack!' 'It sounds exactly as if they're yelling at me,' said Jack, 'just like our games master does.'

Probably wrong but is it ‘Castle of Adventure’?

I think that last quote is from a Secret Seven book possibly Good Old Secret Seven.

Just to keep the thread going I'll post another one...

"George could look into those windows that were not curtained. Lights shone out from them now. It was queer being able to see into windows without being seen. A little family sat at a meal in one room, their faces cheerful and happy. An old man sat alone in another, reading and smoking..."

That sounds very familiar!

I’m assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that it’s about George Kirrin, and I’m going to guess the book is Demon’s Rocks - the quote has that seaman’s cottages feel to it.

It's not that book, no.

But you're right that it's George Kirrin, so it is a FF book. And you're on the right lines thinking of a remote place like Demon's Rocks...

I’ve just listened to Smugglers Top, but can’t remember George looking at windows in that book. I seem to think she was escaping from somewhere or exploring. It’s so long since I read or listened to the later books.

Is it Magga Glen village in Five Get into a Fix?

Is it Smuggler's Top?

It was Smugglers Top.
I don't know if it's Morgan or Anjalli's turn. :)

It was when George climbed down the rope-ladder from the bedroom she was locked in and walked along the wall that encircled Castaway Hill and she could look into some of the houses (and saw Block talking to Mr Barling!)
