That's Five Go Adventuring Again — despite the fact that it features the Five in a bluebell wood when the story itself has them literally snowed in at Kirrin Cottage over Christmas. Proof positive that the illustrators commissioned to do book covers haven't always read the actual book, or even the blurb...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

That's also Five Go Adventuring Again with the original Maxey cover — much better than her later one, in my opinion. :D

And that brings us to the end of this little quiz.
We hope you have enjoyed looking over some of alternative Famous Five covers.
A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to take part.

Our thanks really must go to Tony for making all these scans available for all to enjoy in the cave.

If you want to go back and check some of these covers out for yourself, here is a link:
The Famous Five
The Famous Five are among Enid Blyton's best-loved creations and countless children have gone adventuring with them since the publication of Five on a Treasure Island in 1942, the first of twenty-one full-length adventures and numerous short stories.

Yes, and thanks to you too for coming up with the game, Pete! It was fun to be reminded of some of the obscure covers.
