It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Ice Cream: I don't have the book with me to check, but I remember that in Adventures of the Wishing-Chair, there's a suitably surreal episode in the Land of Dreams where something turns into a mass of ice cream in Peter's hands!
(Can anyone check what it was? I'm sure it's some creature or object that they pick up and it transforms into something else several times, as things can in dreams.)

Mountain: The Secret Mountain, which I haven't read but it sounds really intriguing and exciting from what everyone says, and I have every intention of getting to it after I've read the earlier books in the series. I'm also aware it happens to be the only Enid Blyton book from a major series that's been axed in the most recent reprint, presumably for reasons of political correctness...

Cakes: Quite a few cakes crop up in Enid's books. I remember Mollie in The Wishing-Chair Again gets a blue cake with her name on it — I've forgotten where they were at the time and don't have the book with me to check, but it was definitely a land full of cakes and other such treats! — and in the same episode, Winks the naughty brownie gets himself thrown in prison, but the walls are made of chocolate cake and he eats his way out, with the result that he can't stand chocolate cake any more. Also, Bessie in The Enchanted Wood has a magic wishing-cake for her birthday — in the Land of Birthdays, naturally — which leads to serious consequences when old Saucepan Man mishears the request to make a wish...
