This is one for those wanting to check whether the car really featured in The Sweeny.

This is a post by Petermax so I think I was correct.

I might be wrong, but the silver Ford that Uncle Quentin and Rogers used to drive looks like a Ford Cortina Mark IV ............. I personally wonder why so many Fords were featured in this series. Was Ford a sponsor?
Wolfgang, you are absolutely correct, the Quentinmobile was indeed a Ford Cortina Estate. Sadly, none of the Fords featured in the series have survived. As regards Ford being a sponsor, this was unlikely due to very strict advertising laws on the use of brand names on television. (blatant product placement) It is more likely that the company supplying the vehicles to Southern Television had a fleet contract with Ford. Some of the vehicles used in the Five series also appeared in The Sweeney.

Blue Ford Granada MkII 4door (VHK_464S).
As for engine, it might be 2.8i GLS or S. All we seem to know is that the 2.8i S was used in THE SWEENEY. All we mostly talk about with regards to FAMOUS FIVE is Quentin Kirrin's silver Ford Cortina MkIV Estate (PNO_565R), since "deceased".
The answer is correct enough for me. However, I think it is the 2.3l V6 not the 2.8. And I am quite sure it is a GL.
Not sure the series is what made old Dick a Mondeo man... as I happen to drive a grey Mondeo estate - grandson of the Cortina which may have had a fling with the Granada.
Cheers
Dick Kirrin

I thank "Dick Kirrin" for forgiving my limited knowledge of car engines!
For the record, the Ford Taunus/Cortina was succeeded by the Ford Sierra, which itself was succeeded by the Ford Mondeo, which we in Canada briefly knew as the Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique from 1994-2000 and since 2013 as the Ford Fusion....
Now, for the next quote (who said it, what episode, etc):
It was Julian, in "Five on Finniston Farm", responding to Junior Henning, who had told him, D,A,G and Harry & Harriet that the area of the farm they were digging was now owned, in rights, by his father, Mr Henning, the American antiquarian profiteer.
A: I think someone from 'The Famous Five' would be I'm sorry to say this thinking George. I don't know guessing and remembering back in the book of 'Five On A Treasure Island'. and Gosh, I was only very shy to respond. Hi anyway.
Welcome, Hayley, but I think you've got onto an old page. Nobody has played this game for ages so we haven't got a quotation to identify at the moment.
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.
"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.
