Re: _____&_____?
Thank you Colette. I did dither over the Anne with an 'e' or not - and like Anne of Green Gables, I do prefer Ann with an 'e' - it seems more finished somehow!

Re: _____&_____?
Well, I can assure you that it is 'Anne' in the editions I have, and they are both very early copies. I have never read Anne of Green Gables anyway.Colette wrote:Sorry, Poppy, it's 'Ann' (at least in the two editions I've read - are you thinking of Anne of Green Gables, who emphasises she is Anne-with-an-e as A-N-N looks common? Re: _____&_____?
How very very strange! Why on earth would the spelling of 'Anne' be changed?? I think 'Anne' is more common than 'Ann' anyway -- and, like Daisy and Miss Anne Shirley, I prefer 'Anne' to 'Ann'.. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for old editions.. which I'll then buy and have nowhere to keep.. I'm already looking for an original copy of The Three Golliwogs..
You're missing out though, Poppy, I highly recommend you read Anne of Green Gables and its sequels.. After Enid Blyton, they were my favourite books as a child.. I actually managed to save them from the great purge of my childhood books! There's a prequel been written now, which I also quite enjoyed

Re: _____&_____?
I've got The Caravan Family (3rd impression 1955), Saucy Jane Family (1st ed 1947), Pole Star Family (1st edition 1950), Seaside Family (5th impression 1963), Buttercup Farm Family, 3rd impression 1956) and Queen Elizabeth Family (4th impression 1959), and she is ANN in all of them.
If it was changed it was after 1963.

Mr Binks & Sid! I always thought it was odd that Sid was in charge of keeping Clopper's head safe, when it was actually Mr Binks who worked Clopper's head during performances.

Steady on, Cranberry! I have to correct you first!
Yes, Sid is correct!
Jeffrey Thomas & Ray Wells ?
(They were both thought to be traitors, I don't know if they were best friends though...)

You know you're right, Poppy! Good job!
According to Toby (in the chapter entitled "A Dreadful Shock"), "Everyone answered roll-call at the camp this
morning except Jeff and Ray. Ray is Jeff’s best friend, you know."
