Storms,Cloudbursts,Thunder & Lightning!

Post by pete9012S »

We're in the middle of a violent thunderstorm in parts of the UK tonight.Vivid flashes of lightning and massive violent claps of thunder.

How many of Enid's books featured Storms, thunder & lightning ,how many can we name?
I'm immediately thinking of a famous one tonight....

1.The Castle of Adventure-thunder,lightning,cloudburst,landslides

The Secret Island - the children sheltering in the willow house while the rain poured down and the thunder rolled.

Isn't there a big thunderstorm at a crucial point in "The Valley of Adventure"? I don't recall the detail much, though.
I wonder how often storms are introduced because they actually make a difference to the plot, or merely to add a bit of sinister atmosphere.

Yes, I thought that too, but couldn't bring the details to mind, but I do remember a suitcase falling out of a tree and knocking out one of the 'baddies' at a crucial moment.

After reading so many books about violent storms (and the adventures that can be had in them) it's amazing that children, and I guess this would have included me in the past, aren't longing for a storm rather than being afraid of them! :?

It says there's a rain storm in The Circus Of Adventure when they are flying to Tauri Hessia.
Would this count?

In came the Taggertys. They were clean, except Biddy knees looked like she had been crawling half a mile in some muddy place.

I see no Secret Seven or Five Find-Outers books on this list yet. Are storms not used in any of those books? Or have they just not been mentioned yet?
I can't offhand think of any storms in either of those series, and I'm just idly wondering if there might be a reason Enid Blyton didn't put them into those books. Maybe they feature a different kind of plot, and maybe Enid Blyton didn't think a storm would fit so easily into that type of plot, or be necessary.
