Am stumped about the rafts in the Mountain! But a couple of questions for you - one very hard:

What is the link between a one time king of England and a town mentioned in one of the Secret books?

What is the song the children compose in one of the secret books to a very familiar tune?

No idea about the first question, Belly, but the answer to the second question is "Here we are at Spiggy Holes, Here we are at Spiggy, Here we are at Spiggy Holes, Pop goes the weasel!", sung of course to the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel."

Hi.

You are correct! Re: the song..! (Has this stayed in your head for many years by any chance, too? I find myself thinking this in my head and it is now about 25 years since I read the book)! If only other facts had the same staying power :D

Would you like another clue re: the town? :D

Hi Belly,

Yes, that song has stayed in my mind for years for some peculiar reason  !

Regarding the town, someone may be able to get it without a clue - why not wait another 24 hours or so, and post a clue after that if necessary?

I've just cheated and looked in my copy of The Secret Mountain to see what the rafts were made of. They were made of a purple fungus that looked like cork, bound together with creepers. Blyton remarks: "They looked rather queer and they smelt even queerer, but they floated marvellously, bobbing about on the water like strange ducks."

Hi!
Can we know the book or would the title give it a way? :?
I've been racking my brains and can't think of any ideas so far

The name of the town was actually effectively the surname of a king of England, before he became king..so possibly a bit cryptic :D

Now I hope my memory serves me correctly but I think this town features in Spiggy Holes...

:? Hmmmmmm well I'm stumped then. The only places I remember being mentioned, apart from Spiggy Holes itself, were Longrigg and Cliftonside but I thought they were both villages :? And I can't spot the link from either of these - I guess you got me stuck with this one!

There was an Edmund Ironside, which sounds a bit like Cliftonside.

Ok, I was thinking of Bolingbroke...

Now, have I got this muddled with an Adventure book?

Doing it all from memory and my new mummy sleep deprived brain is currently not what it was, so apologies...

Perhaps the question should be in which Blyton (secret)? book or otherwise does the town of Bolingbroke appear??? :?

Or have I imagined Bolingbroke?

There's a Bolingblow in The Secret of Moon Castle, if that's any help.

Congratulations on the new baby, Belly!
