The Five Find-Outers -and Dog Tackle the Mystery Sneak Thief (short story)
Unusually, the Find Outers meet in Larry's meeting shed on a few occasions in this short story...
Fatty even takes lemonade & Biscuits, pops Buster in his bicycle basket and cycles round to Larry's shed for the second Find Outers meeting in this short mystery....
Sure you will agree though, this shed is not a patch on Fatty's shed -if the artists illustration is anything to go by!
And just what is Pip sitting on? It looks like a pile of manure!!

Yes, definately that's not a patch on Fatty's shed. I'm surprised it's even Larry's or any of the Find-Outers to be blunt!

It's way too big to be a shed. It looks more like a barn. This impression is reinforced by Pip apparently sitting on a pile of straw or hay.

Totally unlike anything any of us could imagine as Fatty's "cosy" shed!

Camp bed?
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Re: Come Inside Fatty's Shed...
These short stories aren’t much like the books – the characters come across as different to the ones we know. It’s almost as if someone else wrote them, not that I’m suggesting that. I suppose it’s because they are short stories and she didn’t get into the usual style of writing.
It’s supposed to be the shed in Larry's garden. Spade, wheelbarrow and hay instead of disguises and Sherlock Holmes books.
No wonder they usually met in Fatty's shed or the play-room at the Hiltons.

Re: Come Inside Fatty's Shed...
Why are you all going by the illustrations? Enid might have imagined it differently. I can't believe she would make poor Larry's shed sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!!

Re: Come Inside Fatty's Shed...
A very valid point. A timely reminder that illustrations are how the illustrators see things, not the author. Even if Enid had approved the pictures, they are not necessarily what Enid saw in her own mind. Of course, the later illustrations wouldn't have been approved by Enid, and I am sure she would have been horrified at most of them.Darrell71 wrote:Why are you all going by the illustrations? By the same token, I absolutely abhor books that have removed the original illustrations!..Grrrrr!
