The others looked at Pip in surprise. "Well, it's an idea of course,"said Larry "But he doesn't look too upset by Buster's escape and our welcome of him, does he?.... in fact he's just about to come and speak to us I think!"

But Bets wasn't looking at Sir Nicholas, she was looking at Lady Candling in amazement. Just as she was about to speak to her, Miss Trimble appeared. On seeing Miss Trimble, Lady Candling beat a hasty retreat to the ladies' lavatory. Bets followed her, as the others gaped.
Gwendoline lay down, angry. She determined to make herself miserable and cry.

Pip and Daisy stood staring at the little group in amazement.. Larry holding the wig which had adorned the head of "Sir Nicholas" and Bets clutching "Lady Candling's" hand in a triumphant gesture which faded into uncertainty as she saw Larry with his trophy!

While the children where agog with bewilderment at seeing TWO FATTYS before their very eyes,'Lady Candling' suddenly took flight as fast as a hare towards the river, whilst 'Sir Nicholas' shot off towards the village,it was a moment or two before Larry cried 'Split up,guys and follow them,QUICK!'.....................

Larry and Daisy made their way down the lane after Sir Nicholas who suddenly turned right into a field , jumped over and style and disappeared from view. When Larry and Daisy arrived at the style they saw nothing but an empty field.

"I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with my eyes!" groaned Larry. "First we see two Fatty's and now one's disappeared into thin air! Where can he have gone?"

A familar voice bellowed from behind them.

"Ho!" it said. "Ho!" it repeated.

Larry and Daisy swung round to come face to face with a very red-faced Goon.

"I don't know what that fat friend of yours is up to now," he said, "but when I catch up with him he will be in serious trouble."

With that Buster appeared, sensing great sport ahead at the sight of Goon's ankles. With Buster snapping around them, Goon scrambled on to his bike and wobbled off, shouting as he went, "And you can tell that toad of a boy that that dog's days are numbered, too!"

"What on earth did he mean?" said Larry, "Why is Fatty is serious trouble? What can he have done?"

Daisy grabbed Buster's trailing lead and hung onto it, much to the annoyance of the eager little dog who was still trying to catch the policeman as he wobbled off on his bike. "Now what?" she said.

'Aha!' shouted Pip, and grasped Goon tightly, flinging him off his bicycle. Miss Trimble screamed, as Pip leered demonically at Theophilus Goon. Tearing off the policeman's helmet, and scrubbing at his face, Pip revealed... Fatty.

'The Mystery of the Three Fattys,' whistled Larry.
Gwendoline lay down, angry. She determined to make herself miserable and cry.
