Cars from the 1970s series quiz
Hello,
to offer a new game, let's see if you can find out in which episode this car appeared and who used it:
A green car, 1600 Sports trimline, twodoor and needless to say, a Ford.

Was that Perton's car. Get into Trouble?
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.
"See that? It's the black Bentley again. KMF 102!"

That's probably the only car I would remember from the series.Moonraker wrote:What???!!! No Bentley, KMF 102???
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

If used a Ford instead of a Bentley, maybe that's a good reason to avoid the series!

Could this possibly be a Ford Capri? A green Fiesta did make regular appearances, but I doubt if it was a 1600 model.Dick Kirrin wrote:Hello,

I too take the view that it really is a pity that ubiquitous Fords were used in the series. Vauxhalls could have been used instead, for example Quentin could have had a nice Vauxhall Magnum 2300 Estate and everyone else could have drove around in Vivas and Chevettes!

Or they could have left the stories in the era they were meant to be in, and used Bentleys, Austins, Morrises and Wolseleys!

Re: Cars from the 1970s series quiz
Here is one more clue: It is an episode with a lot of water and water activities such as boating in it.
Sorry, the didn't use a Bentley in "get into trouble" they used a Ford, but is was a fourdoor model. A nice car it was by the way, but the size of the boot just didn't fit. George is right in saying that they could all fit in it. They didn't even bother to use KMF 102 as number, the used YHK 646S, if I remember correctly. So, what Ford did they use?
Ford or Vauxhall, Petermax, where is the difference? Or can you "feel" any difference? Both are typical middle-class cars. In my family, I go for the Fords, mum goes for the Vauxhalls or Opels, as the are called in Germany.

Tempted as I am, I will not trawl through 26 episodes in order to locate this mystery vehicle, there are limits to my dedication.Dick Kirrin wrote:Here is one more clue: It is an episode with a lot of water and water activities such as boating in it.
I have a liking for the Vauxhall Vivas, Magnums, Firenzas and Chevettes of the 70's era. Fords are fine though, I've owned a couple of Escorts in the pastFord or Vauxhall, Petermax, where is the difference? Or can you "feel" any difference?

I'm guessing then that the episode in question is Five on a Hike Together. I cant remember any of the cars in that episode though. Did Maggie and Dirty Dick have a car?Dick Kirrin wrote:Here is one more clue: It is an episode with a lot of water and water activities such as boating in it.

Re: Cars from the 1970s series quiz
Correct! The vehicle in question is a green Mk2 Ford Escort 1600 Sport, PNO 572R. A quick check on the D.V.L.A website reveals that this vehicle was taxed until 1988 and is therefore unlikely to still be in existence. The sole surviving road vehicle from the 70's series would appear to be the Morris 8 Tourer from Five Go Off To Camp.

Re: Cars from the 1970s series quiz
Here's another one, a bit easier this time:
A grey Cortina estate, Ghia trimline, 2.3l six cylinders, automatic transmission.
Registration PNO 565 R if I remember correctly.
Who owns it?

Re: Cars from the 1970s series quiz
Just noticed this! The owner of this vehicle was of course Uncle Quentin. I often harbour dreams about finding this vehicle in an old barn and restoring it to its former glory. Alas, it demised back in 1986.

Re: Cars from the 1970s series quiz
Right you are, Petermax. Three cheers.
Over to you.
Sad news that this Cortina is no longer with us. I would have love to see it being restored by you. Somehow ironic that the by far oldest car used during the filming, the Morries Eight Tourer is still a going concern whereas all the other cars just have disaapeared.
Cheers Dick
