Help - Scottish book series

Hi, a friend of a friend is trying to remember a series of books they read as a child in the late 1980s/early 199s, can anyone help? I’ve copied their query below:

“This friend now lives in England but grew up in Scotland, He's fairly sure the series was set in Scotland, possibly Glasgow. A block of flats was involved, & it centred round a young girl (or just possibly a boy) & their daily life. There were possibly visits to an elderly relative. He thinks the plots were similar to 'Geordie Racer', which seems to be 'gentle realism', for want of a better term, maybe with a bit of Blyton-esque sleuthing.
He would have read the books in the late 80s or early 90s (though of course they may have been published earlier) and associates them with primary school age”.

Sorry I haven't a clue. For some reason -that I'll mention just in case it helps- it reminds me of a children's tv series called "Mary, Mungo, and Midge".They lived in a tower block. I, frankly doubt that that will help, but who knows - the connection struck me quite strongly somehow.

One possibility might be the "Maggie" series by Joan Lingard, about a teenage girl living in Glasgow who has a boyfriend called James. If I remember correctly, her family have certain expectations for her but she has different dreams. I recall watching a TV serial based on the books in 1981-82 (Maggie). My sister collected all the books and I read them too.
