I'm afraid that I can't see any images at all - just a box for each with the word 'image' in it! :cry:

Sorry you can't see the images, Tony.

I'm really enjoying all the bookish conversations we've had lately, even if they're about titles I know almost nothing about - such as the Kathleen Fidler series and these Golden Age Detection books. Other than Agatha Christie, which Golden Age Detection authors are generally considered to be the best? And are there any particular titles that are classed by fans as "must-reads", e.g. would it be possible to draw up a Top Ten or Top Twenty?

I think my favourite of those titles have to be "He Died of Murder", and "Drink Alone and Die". The second one sounds like a bad public health message :lol:

"Murder in the Statosphere" sounds pretty high-flying as well! :D What a collection, Sixret... will you find time to read them all amidst your Enid Blyton short stories marathon?? :wink:

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie,
He Who Whispers by John Dickson Carr,
The Greek Coffin Mystery by Ellery Queen,
The Singing Shroud by Ngaio Marsh,
Murder A la Mode by Patricia Moyes,
A Mind To Murder by P. D. James,
The Circle by Peter Lovesey,
The Beast Must Die by Nicholas Blake,
Blunt Instrument by Georgetter Heyer
Suicide Excepted by Cyril Hare

These novels together with Colin Dexter's Nicholas Quin are among the best of detective mystery stories written by the first class British mystery writers except for Ellery Queen and John Dickson Carr(US) and Ngaio Marsh(New Zealand).
sixret helped me to track a couple of these excellent books down in electronic format - there are some excellent stories here for those who enjoy the genre.

Thanks, Pete! I've heard of most of those writers but haven't tried any of them except for Agatha Christie and P. D. James. Maybe one of these days!
