There was a delightful exhibition on Winnie-the-Pooh at the V&A in London earlier this year, too — I think I mentioned it in another discussion. I spent a lovely time there and was hoping to go again before it closed, but unfortunately it was completely booked out for its last several weeks. But I'm glad I got there the once, anyway, and bought the book of the exhibition, which is great to dip into.

Tony and I went to that exhibition one Saturday in late March, not long before it closed. I tried to book online but there were no places left. However, I phoned the V&A to see if they kept back any tickets for people who turned up on the day. They said they kept about 20 but I should get there early, so I queued up (in falling snow!) for about half an hour before the doors opened and managed to get tickets. It was well worth it - we were amazed by the amount of E. H. Shepard artwork on display, not to mention manuscripts, photos, toys and games, books, etc. We liked the recreation of the Poohsticks bridge too. I've since watched the film Goodbye Christopher Robin, which I found interesting and enjoyable.

Very sweet of him, but surely a cheaper modern edition would be better to give to a young child — I wouldn't dare let kids touch an expensive first edition!!

Do you think he will really be allowed to handle it? I would guess it will be kept well away from him until he is old enough to appreciate its value. Many christening presents are given as keepsakes.

I should hope he won't be!! I'm sure they will give him a cheaper version once he's old enough to start reading, but to my frugal mind, what then is the point of having the expensive edition?? (I'm not a "real" collector, as you can tell.)

The original Poohsticks bridge in Ashdown Forest is to be auctioned by Summers Place Auctions next Tuesday (October 5th.) and they expect it to fetch between £40,000 and £60,000.

From what I can gather the original Poohsticks bridge (which had been restored to its former glory) was sold for £101,250.00, which is way above the estimated price of £40,000 to £60,000! I wonder who bought it and if it will be put in a museum or exhibition?
