E. Nesbit - The Railway Children, etc.

I'm hoping to tag along with a walking group who are doing the 6 mile 'Railway Children' walk, this Saturday. There's a spare place on the coach up to Keighley. Then it's the Steam train up to Haworth. I've put my name down for it and just keeping my fingers crossed I'm the lucky person to claim the seat! I've done the walk on a few occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Let us know how it goes, Number 6 — hope you do get on the train! It sounds like a lovely trip. I've only seen the film of The Railway Children once or twice, but I remember it's very sweet and of course I love the book as well.

I can't remember if I mentioned in here, by the way, but last year when I was in Penzance and had the afternoon free, I discovered there was a stage production of The Railway Children on at the Minack Theatre that evening, so I went along. Absolutely magnificent backdrop of the sea, of course, and the play was very well acted, but boy does it get cold out there as the evening comes on and boy does one's backside get numb!! (And the drive back to where I was staying, in the pitch dark with those awful narrow winding Cornish roads, was not fun either. I've always wanted to go to a show at the Minack, but I'm never doing it again unless it's a matinee.)

I'll certainly let you know if I make it up to Haworth, Courtenay. I've seen the Railway Children film plenty of times over the years, but it was only if it came on TV. However, I now have it on DVD, so I can watch it when I want to! Interestingly, as many of you may already know, the Border Collie which appears briefly at the start of the film, is our very own Timmy from the 70's F5 series! What a star!

I'm glad you took the opportunity to go and watch the production of the RC at the Minack theatre, despite having to drive along the dark lanes afterwards. I've never been, but I've seen it on TV a few times. It does look spectacular. I'd love to go and watch a play there one day.

I managed to secure the spare seat for the trip to Haworth on Saturday. However, Shortly after I had paid, I found out that a young RC enthusiast had been hoping to save up enough money to go, but had run out of time and failed. She had always wanted to go and see the locations used in the 1970 film, but has never had the chance. This has now been put right. I've contacted the group leader and have given the coach ticket to the young lady free of charge. What the heck, I've been a few times before so I wasn't really missing out! I haven't a clue who she is, but I hope she enjoys her day tomorrow.

Thanks Courtenay and Daisy. I'm sure she will have a wonderful time and appreciates the gesture. I hope she takes away some happy memories from her trip. I've not disclosed my identity. I just want her to enjoy a care free day out and to put a smile on her face.
PS: I hope I didn't come across as bragging about helping someone out. No, it's all about trying to do the right thing for those who deserve a bit of luck.
