Re: Comtesse de Segur
I read an extract from this book in English - because ... well, my French knowledge, it is really a pity (or a shame). I remember a movie made in the late 70´s/early 80`s. "Les malheurs de Sophie" - the German title was "Die Abenteuer von Sophie".
I tried to read it in French but I failed. There is a lack of vocabularies, it was really exhausting.

Do you know the book "What Katy did" by Susan Coolidge? "Les malheurs de Sophie" seems to be the French version of it! But I learned that Comtesse de Segur wrote a story about an animal (I think it was an donkey) which could be compared to Sewell´s "Black Beauty". And she wrote about an orphaned neglected child which reminds me of the stories of Charles Dickens.
