I like the way how the British style of preparing food is portrayed in the Asterix comics .

Re: Other Authors I Enjoy
You mean the boiled (as opposed to roasted) boar? It's odd because a roast dinner (usually beef) is a very English thing in our minds!
I was amused by the way the Britons strolled off the battlefield at five o'clock to have a nice civilised cup of hot water with a spot of milk, leaving their fuming Roman opponents mid-fight. The way they spoke was also amusing ("awfully sorry old chap", or "it's a bit damp, what?"), and I appreciated the allusion to the Channel Tunnel at the beginning. The reference to warm beer went right over my head as a child though!

Not to mention how Asterix introduces a new magical herb for the Britons to brew with their hot water!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I've not re read them lately, something tells me I should. But my fave characters are Asterix, Obelix(Cutie!) and Dogmatix. We were gonna name my dog either Dogmatix or Scamper, eventually we decided on the latter though.

I don't know if the English translation covered it as well, but Obelix' comment about boar with mint sauce was hilarious. In the album "Asterix in Corsica" when they meet friends from early albums again and the wives of their friends exchange cooking recipies, the British housewife said something along the lines: "I only cook with water; I think it gives a wonderful taste to everything." Her Spanish counterpart replies: "I only cook with olive oil.".

Of course we only cook with water - after all we are surrounded by it!

Every couple of months the newspapers tell us that the food we're eating is taking us to an early grave, but on the months in between they talk about how we're living longer and growing taller and the world is overpopulated!
